A denture is a removable dental appliance that can be used to replace lost teeth. Dentures are a great way to enhance your smile, give a proper shape to your face, and to improve your speech, chewing and digestion. Here at Village Dental, we prepare custom dentures that are made to closely made to match your natural teeth and enhance the look and function of your smile.
Dentures are made in complete and partial variants. Partial dentures are used when some of the natural teeth are missing, while complete dentures replace a whole set of teeth in a dental arch. A complete denture is of two types: A “Conventional” complete denture is made once all the natural teeth have been removed from the mouth and the gum tissue has healed. This takes about four to six weeks of time, during which the patient may have to go without teeth. Immediate full dentures are made in advance and can be placed immediately after the removal of a patient’s teeth. Once the gum tissues heal, adjustments are made to the denture so that it fits well.
It takes some time for you to adjust to your dentures. You may experience some soreness, difficulties in speaking and chewing, and increased flow of saliva during the adjustment period. However, this will subside as your muscles and tissues get used to the new dentures.
Denture Stabilization and Fixed Dentures
If you are worried about your dentures slipping away or loosening, we can give you fixed dentures that are supported by a small number of implants. Implant-supported dentures make use of a Snap-On mechanism so they can be snapped into attachments placed on the implants and can be easily removed while sleeping and for cleaning.
